大宮の氷川参道沿いの住居を洋食店にリノベーションする計画です。窓越しに参道の緑が目前に広がるのが素敵だったので、窓辺にそっと、風景を楽しみながら食事できるローテーブルを置くことにしました。
和室は本質的には床座の場所なので重心が低い。ということで和室の天井はそのままにし、他の部屋は天井を落として高さを確保することにしました。和室の合板天井の薄い断面が見えてくることで、窓際の特等席としての印象が増しました。天井を張る/張らないという操作によって、外の豊かな緑に向かって重心がなめらかに下がっていくことを目指しました。
ローテーブルは設計者自ら施工することで省コストを図っています。

This is a renovation project from a residence into a restaurant along the Hikawa Sando in Omiya. It was impressive to see the greenery on Hikawa Sando through the window, so gently placed a low table by the window for dining while enjoying the scenery.
A Japanese-style room is essentially a place to sit on the floor, so the center of gravity is low. Therefore, we decided to leave the ceiling in the Japanese-style room as it is and drop the ceiling in the other rooms to gain more height. By revealing a thin section of the plywood ceiling in the Japanese-style room, a special place near the window looks more impressive. By manipulating the ceiling, we aimed to lower the center of gravity toward the greenery outside smoothly.
The low table was constructed by us to save cost.
